Short description of Empire Inland
Empire Inland – could be seen as an outgrowth of my earlier project “Untitled Landscapes” – has been inspired by my experiences in close proximity to Hollywood and America. Movies from the Hollywood film industry projects dreams and longings for an ideal non-existing world.
The project approach is based on still film photographs, which could be seen as stills from a movie scene – images, which are cut out of the context of a moving picture so that they become scenery without a beginning or an end.
The photographs show wide landscapes, which witnesses human existence in ordinary and everyday indefinite places. The landscapes are quiet and deserted and more of a poetic placeholder/image for a timeless journey of the longing for longing.
